Happy Earth Day!

I've not posted in a while...just been too darn busy.  Today seems like an appropriate day to share some of the beautiful visitors to my garden.  This cutie, a Flycatcher, has chosen a different birdhouse this year.  She usually nests in a box out front with the Bluebird population.

 "Close enough", she says.

Bluebirds are always welcome visitors.

A frequent guest for dinner!

Checking out an abandoned Wood Duck box...

A lovely Cardinal enjoying a shower in the vegetable garden.  We've been terribly dry so many birds are attracted by the sprinklers any time they're on.

This shy Ground-Dove has found itself a quiet, shady spot to get a drink of water.

Sandhill Cranes are also welcome in our yard.  He can have all the grubs he can hold, with my blessing.

My Mexican Flame Vine hasn't slowed down for two years.  I originally put it behind the vegetable garden to cover a pile of firewood, but, oh my, it's taken over!  I hope it continues as it draws in so many butterflies!  We often just hang out in the veggie garden to see what's visiting  our vine.

Monarchs

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

Gulf Fritillary

The Gulf Fritillaries love this Passion Vine that is also planted by the veggie garden, so I expect to see it being consumed by caterpillars any day.

I'm going to close with just a couple photos around the garden.  Then...I'm going to catch up on some of my favorite Florida garden bloggers!

Happy Earth Day...Happy Gardening!

  1. So lovely to see your post this morning! I've been wondering what you've been up to. Everything looks beautiful there. We do miss our daily visits from the Sandhill cranes. Haven't seen any here in North Carolina.
Any chance we will get an update on your veggie garden? Your posts are always so inspiring.
    Enjoy your weekend!

  2. Hi Janice! It's so great to see you posting again! I've missed you! Your photos are outstanding - I just love your header shot of the Swallowtail in the Pagodas. Oh, and you have Flycatchers! Truly a charming series of pics of your birds and birdhouses. I'm getting Mike to make me a Screech owl nesting box. I want him to come look at your husbands handiwork on those gorgeous birdhouses and see if he can make me something similar, when he gets done with the owl box. Beautiful garden, as always! Happy Spring! :)

  3. Hi Janice, I love all of your colorful birdhouses and your beautiful birds, too. It's so nice to have nesting birds in the garden. Your garden looks just as beautiful as ever. I've missed seeing it. Looks like it never missed a beat this winter. Your Mexican Flame vine is very pretty. I didn't know it bloomed so long. And, of course, who doesn't love Confederate jasmine with its heavenly scent.

  4. Any suggestions on growing Passion Vine? I bought two from our local extension's plant sale and haven't put them in the ground yet.

    1. Cody, my plant is in full sun. Prepare for growth - mine runs over 15 feet in both directions - planted on a fence.
