Today finds Central Florida, sunless, wet and cool. Showers are expected throughout the day, temperatures in the low 50's. It would be a perfect day to binge-watch gardening shows on television, but no, they've all been replaced with drivel. Do you remember "A Gardener's Diary", hosted by Erica Glasener? My all time favorite, because she visited gardens of everyday people, across the U.S. When gardening shows were on the way out, they moved "A Gardener's Diary" to the ungodly hour of 6:00AM. During that time, I taped the show on my VCR, but alas, no more VCR. I need to round up my tapes and have them transferred to disc. So, my fellow bloggers, now I get my gardening 'fix' by visiting your gardens.
Blooms are still plentiful, as we've had no cold weather to speak of, but I'm just going to post a few new things. This bicycle planter was a Christmas gift from my daughter, along with other garden accessories. Before spring arrives, I have to decide what plants will adorn it.
Sasanqua Camellia, 'Yuletide'
Something I've never seen on my Night-blooming Jasmine, shiny, white berries...
A couple crazy things due to the warm weather, Caladiums popping up...
...and Lacecap Hydrangeas blooming.
In closing, photos from my garden, spring and summer, 2015...to brighten a dreary day.
I won't wish you 'happy gardening', but 'happy planning and dreaming' for next year's garden.
Beautiful space so inviting and I love that bike planter. Can hardly wait to see what you do with it. My garden is pretty quiet right now - we're in a farm setting, planning does begin this month for us. So far winter has been pretty mellow.

What a great planter!!!
ReplyDeleteYour gardens are so beautiful. Mine really need a LOT of work.
Have a great week ~ FlowerLady
I don't know how you get all the things done that you do! I bet your gardens will be all done up by spring, though. Hopefully, cooler temps. will prevail, and some of the wild growth will subside.
DeleteSis,we love your bike planter. A perfect gift for your garden. Love you...looking forward to Friday.
ReplyDeleteThe bicycle planter is really neat, and I love your Yuletide sasanqua. My sister visited Savannah recently and she saw lots of Yuletides in the squares. She said they were loaded with bright red flowers and were as tall and graceful as trees. I have two myself, but they are tiny.
ReplyDeleteIt really cheered me up to see your summer garden pictures--it's been dreary here for two solid weeks! :)
I love, love, love the bicycle planter. What a great gift. I can't wait to see what you do with it. I know you will make it beautiful! I have the same white berries on my night blooming jasmine. It seems to put out more berries than flowers. I wonder if the birds like them. I do remember the great gardening shows and I miss them. I've taken to YouTube to tour the gardens of Austin. For some reason, those southwest gardens are very interesting to me. There's also Florida gardens, but the Austin gardens are the best. Whoever tapes them does a great job. Check it out. Hope you got some beautiful sunshine today!
ReplyDeleteI used to watch that one too, way back when. You can imagine how thrilled I was when we visited Calloway Gardens in Georgia a few years back. It's magnificent and well worth a trip. ;0D
ReplyDeleteHi Janice! Loved this post because I was reminiscing about that garden show too and can remember them moving it to that ungodly hour and then it disappearing. I used to love the tours of all those beautiful gardens. There was one in particular that was on I believe, Lake Martin (AL or MS?) but I remember thinking it was truly the most beautiful garden that the gentleman had created from scratch. The shows on these days are not really "gardening" shows more like 24 hr diy projects!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to look at the beautiful photos of your garden. I'm a bit in despair like you over this strange weather. We should have had some frosts but everything is blooming and is going to be hit super hard as soon as we get the inevitable one. Lets hope we can get it out of the way soon and we don't get hit with freezes in February. I adore your bicycle planter - what a truly wonderful gift. I'm so excited to see how you plant that up as I know it will look spectacular!

Hell-o Kate, so good to hear from you! At last, a little cool-down. I hope it will begin to prepare our plants for the first frost, which as you said, is inevitable. Being in the garden this time of year is more like work, than pleasure, for me anyway. I need the jolt that spring fever brings, as it always reinvigorates me.
DeleteWishing you a great day...Janice
Your garden is so great to see! I'd love to have color all year round. That bicycle planter is simply awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi Betty, good to hear from you. I hope your 'summer' weather is growing everything
Deletebeautifully for you.
And yes, it's nice to have the color all year round, but it can get tiring this time of year. I'm ready for a frost!
I did read that the birds will eat the white berries on the night-blooming jasmine. An added benefit!
ReplyDeleteSusan, how nice of you to post all those sites for me. I'll put them to good use. This string of dreary days and cold winds, has me spending time indoors.
ReplyDeleteHappy to know the birds eat the berries. I love planting for them, whether intentional or by accident.
Thanks again...Janice
Hi Janice! We always joke that the G is silent in HGTV, since they don't do gardening shows like they used to, lol! I loved watching them, so sad they're not on anymore. But I love Susan's suggestions and will look those sites up too. I adore your new bicycle planter - can't wait until you get it all dolled up! I just love to pop over and look at your cheerful, lovely garden! We got a brief spell of cooler weather - loved it!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn! Oh yes, the G has definitely been banished. They didn't even give us a vote, did they? I've been enjoying this cooler weather also, kind of hoping for a little frost. I've got some plants in the shade gardens that will need to be replaced anyway, so I would like them to be turned to mush, lol. Take care. _Janice
DeleteGorgeous garden!
ReplyDeleteI love the hydrangea blooms. It's nice to see so much color. I tried starting some Johhny Jump Ups and snapdragons, but they are taking forever to bloom. I'm really tempted to just invest in some winter-blooming perennials.I can do veggies from seed pretty well, but if it's not a marigold or zinna, it tends to give me trouble. Thanks for sharing your garden!
